Cats, Dogs, and Vaccinations

You vaccinate your dog or cat for rabies. Distemper. Feline leukemia. Or do you? If you do, how often? If you don't, why not?

The answers to these questions are less clear-cut than they were a decade ago. Read more about cats, dogs, and vaccinations.

Dogs and Skunks

You and your dog are out on your daily walk, or perhaps your dog is in your back yard. Suddenly, he dashes toward the bushes or the garbage cans, and just as suddenly, he yelps. You almost yelp too when you realize that your dog has been sprayed by a skulking skunk. Read more about dogs and skunks.

Cutest Critter Pet Photo Contest

Due to a programming error, the August photo contest entries didn't appear at the Odor Destroyer website. Because of this, the August pet photo contest entries are now the September entries.

We invite you to submit your pet photos to the monthly Cutest Critter Pet Photo Contest.

Tip of the Month

Don't Let Your Dog or Cat Eat Chocolate

Theobromine, a chemical stimulant in chocolate, is toxic to cats and dogs. It can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, irregular heartbeat, coma, and death. If your dog or cat has eaten chocolate, take your pet to a veterinarian immediately. Your chances of saving your animal are higher with early veterinary care.

Headline News

Pitt Bull Restrictions in Canada

As of August 29, pitt bulls are banned in Canada's province of Ontario. A grandfather clause allows pitt bulls already in Ontario to continue living there under certain restrictions. Any pitt bulls brought into the province or born after November 27 may be destroyed.

Depression in Pets

According to veterinarians, the number of pets with depression is on the rise. The huge increase in depressed pets is believed to be due to the lifestyles of their owners, who are away from home all day.

Notable Quotable

"It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much — the wheel, New York, wars and so on — whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man — for precisely the same reasons."

- Douglas Adams
